For those of us without the gift of a green thumb, we can only standby, helpless as our beloved house plants fade away. If only there was an ER for little green buddies! Created for a very special edition of Hellavision Television called Hellovision that screened at Tattersall during Art-A-Whirl with no audio.

But he lives in a tiny town in the Mississippi delta and has never met a transperson in his life. Will he be able to walk his graduation stage in heels? Won a Webby, was nominated for a 2017 GLAAD award.

This is a visual essay exploring the future technology of synthetic biology. In recent years there have been major breakthroughs in DNA editing. Making it inexpensive and precise to modify and or combine living organisms to our design specifications. Through the combination of organic and mechanical archetypes into new forms, we wanted to stir the imagination of designers and engineers. The goal of this project is to spread synthetic biology into the sci-fi communities. To help us visualize the design and engineering possibilities that this technology can bring to us in the future. https://www.behance.net/gallery/66208181/Synthetic-Biology

Chasing swell around the world is an integral part of...

Chasing swell around the world is an integral part of Roby’s life. And although it is very rewarding it is not always that easy. At the beginning of November I got a whattsup from Roby that said: “Africa is calling”. Well, let’s go to Morocco. It was not Morocco but it did not matter, 12 hours later I was in London with Roby and Nils ready for another adventure. We arrived on the island but the swell we monitored did not have the right direction. The search began. With the help of some locals we found some funny waves but it was not what we were looking for. At the end of the first week we decided to stop and wait for the second swell to come. We missed our flights but the waves did not arrive. Between sessions and more than 1000 km driven we became an integral part of the Island’s culture, visiting every single spot and living with what this beautiful location had to offer. This was part of the journey and we found a way to spend time discovering things that we would never had the way to live directly. We lost another flight and the third week the swell finally showed up. But when you want something too much the worst things can happen and that’s how life goes. Huge thanks to all the locals, you guys are special. I originally set out to make this film as a sort of homage to Wallace Stegner and the enduring words he wrote in his famous ‘Wilderness Letter’ to Congress in 1960. His poetic appeal for robust and comprehensive conservation efforts of America’s wild lands gave me pause. In this current political climate his words began to take on new meaning. His plea for what wilderness can do for us is more relevant now than ever. Thousands of acres of our remaining public lands are threatened everyday. We need to stand together to protect America’s wild lands from being sold off to the highest bidder. We must preserve wilderness as a “means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope.” Watch the film and take action: hipcamp.com/action Special thanks to Avocados & Coconuts, Hipcamp and everyone that contributed their amazing talents to making this film. (Español: Haz clic en CC para activar los subtítulos) This is the story of a big wave pioneer who “died more times than Jesus”, a man who constantly risked his life to find life, to find the edge or reason and overcome it. His name is Ric Friar and this is a story of ‘Phenomenality’. And like all good movies there was sex, death, bar brawls, and a heap of shit. Friar literally became the “King of Poo” and made a fortune in the process. It’s a life that sequences more like a feature length dream: a truly wild concoction of adventures constantly intersecting with equal measures of insanity and bravado, an unbridled grabbing of life by tha balls. • WORLD PREMIERE | 16th San Francisco Documentary Festival, California, USA (2017) • WINNER | Audience Award - DOC LA. - Los Angeles, USA (2017) • WINNER | 2nd place Jury Award - Audience Awards, Los Angeles, USA (2017) • WINNER | Best Directing – International Film Competition of Bali (2017) • WINNER | Rising Star – International Film Competition of Bali (2017) • SEMI-FINALIST | Near Nazareth Festival, Israel (2017) • OFFICIAL SELECTION: - Flickerfest International Short Film Festival, Australia (Academy Award® and BAFTA Accredited, 2018) - Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, Australia (2018) - Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China (2017) - Sofia Independent Film Festival, Bulgaria (2017) - Utah Film Festival, USA (2018) - San Diego Surf Film Festival, USA (2018) - San Pedro International Film Festival, California, USA (2017) - Honolulu Surf Film Festival, Hawaii (2018) - Ocean Coast Film Festival, Portugal (2018) - Noosa Surf Film Festival, Australia (2017) - Barcelona Planet Film Festival, Spain (2017) Website: http://livinglibraryfilms.com/project/phenomenality Written & Directed by Lucas Jatobá http://livinglibraryfilms.com Executive Producers Ric Friar Wendy Harper wendy@1giantwave.com Producers Lucas Jatobá Ric Friar Wendy Harper Cinematographers Toby Heslop https://www.tobyheslop.com.au Lee Kelly http://leekelly.tv Underwater Cinematography Jon Shaw http://ginclearfilm.com Rick Rifici http://rickrifici.com Music Composer Zino Zeinero Animators Marie Larrive & Lucas Malbrun http://www.marielarrive.com http://www.lucasmalbrun.com Mulga http://mulgatheartist.com.au Cento Lodigiani http://www.centolodigiani.com Tânia Falcão & Avelar Lucas http://falcaolucas.com Brian Neong San http://work.neongsan.com Paul Ducco http://www.supernaut.com.au Title Design Pragun Agarwal https://www.instagram.com/pragunagarwal Editors Lucas Jatobá Toby Heslop Online & Grading Toby Heslop https://www.tobyheslop.com.au Sound Recordist Paul Smith Sound Mix & Design Nigel Crowley https://www.fsm.com.au Production Designer Cyma Hibri Production Assistant Luisa Daltro First AD Hugo Wilde VO Mark Kennedy http://blackboxvoiceproductions.com Hair & Make Up Desiree Wise http://www.networkagency.com.au/artist/desiree-wise Pam Daniel Dempsey Rai Elizabeth Pozoglau Script Supervisors Ric Friar Wendy Harper Vocals Honey Soul Friar Ryan Garner Production Design Assistants Mairi Armour Kevin Oyarbide Jurden Urunuela Nadia Grijalba Jamal Hibri Amy Holland Brendan Donnellan Maira Widholzer Runners Phoebe Pike Burcu Tekin Gaffer Jyden Chancellor Wardrobe Wendy Harper BTS Camera Operator Justin De Knock Storyboards Michael Golding Special thanks to: Rick Marks Brett Saunders Evan Sturrock Jason Bowman Fraser Shiers http://forgeandmorrow.com Starring: Wendy Harper Ric Friar Lucas Jatobá Honey Soul Friar Ryan Garner Marie Kennedy Garry Birdsell Josephine Roberte Nadia Jones Zazi Timar Jyden Chancellor Rusty Harris Gitte Mariussen Terry Matthews Tony Mathers Tony Flook Kevin Oyarbide Jurden Urunuela Chiara Emerson Giselle Emerson Ana M. KILLING KLAUS KINSKI BY SPIROS STATHOULOPOULOS The hostility of the Amazon and its natural forces reaches superlative levels during the shooting of a film. The overpowering jungle and harsh weather lead the film crew to plot the assassination of the main actor. As in cinema that scrutinizes itself, we revisit in a vertiginous sequence shot a myth of the history of film when in the toughest part of filming Fitzcarraldo, Werner Herzog fantasize about killing actor Klaus Kinski.

Saṃsāra is a central belief in Dharmic religions. It permeates...

Saṃsāra is a central belief in Dharmic religions. It permeates all forms of life, as a cyclical and ceaseless power dictating a succession of earthly existence. With Saṃsāra, my aim was to capture the vibrancy of India, its culture, and the elements of the Dharmic religions which encapsulate life in this beautiful nation. The Purusharthas, the main objectives of human life, also became a theme for the film. Gandhi’s words are used as a voiceover to help bring life to some of these ideas. The film closes with the end of human life in one of India’s Seven Holy Cities; Varanasi. Pilgrims come at the end of their lives to Varanasi, to die in the vicinity of the holy Ganges, as it is believed to be a site that can bring Moksha, liberation from cyclical life, and the ultimate goal of one’s existence. It is believed the sacred waters offer the Ātma, the inner soul, a path to the Brahman - the Ultimate Reality in the universe. This film is the culmination of three weeks exploring northern India, across Delhi, Bīkāner, Rāisar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pushkar, Tordi Sāgar, Jaipur, Āgra, and Varanasi, with GAdventures. Having been immersed in India’s vibrancy, and experiencing its wildly chaotic, yet perfectly synchronous culture, the premise for Saṃsāra gradually evolved into the product of this film. Edited in Premiere Pro and After Effects. Gear used: Canon EOS 1DX Mark II GoPro Hero 5 Black Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro Zoom H5 Rode VideoMic Pro Syrp 82mm Variable ND Filter The entirety of this film was shot and edited by Kieran Mellor.

The subject of my work is the old paradox between man and...

The subject of my work is the old paradox between man and nature. People had long ago cut themselves off of their natural environment and have suffered since from this division, the lack of the essential feeling of unity and belonging. Although we do see nature’s own hierarchy we took a view too long to see how our human nature is defined by it, and, eventually started seeing ourselves as something different and separate. The overall truth however is hardly ever the truth of one unit, let it be in nature or our society. One’s joy might lead to another’s tragic fate. A crumb on my table is what you would need to survive. In this world everything is of the same value with equal importance, and everything has a spirit, a role and is filled with life. We humbly accept brutality as part of the world and by doing so we can also experience the unity that frees us all from the sufferings of isolation. We are all part of the same struggles and harmony, ‘lifeless’ elements and living creatures alike, of this frantic dance of euphoria and acceptance.

Can you deviate in a group or will you then end up alone? A raw yet poetic short film about the beautiful young girl Ninnoc. In this documentary you find yourself in Ninnoc’s head and see her wandering through an empty school. Ninnoc faces the group in her mind. She doesn’t want to adapt to the others but she is also afraid of being excluded. A film about exclusion and inclusion, about being your own, group pressure and the consequences that appear to coincide in the head of the self-willed protagonist Ninnoc. NINNOC has won 7 international prizes, amongst others at Berlinale & IDFA.

Directed and Edited by Jared Hogan Produced by Heather McEntire and Jared Hogan Cinematography by Christian Schultz Titles by Eric Hurtgen Color Graded by Jacob McKee at The Mill “In talking with Heather, we knew that we wanted this video to touch on universal wounds of depression and suffering, but established in a more poetic narrative. We also knew we wanted family and community play a integral role. All of the subjects in the video are connected to Heather’s life in one way or another and that was very important to us. The song strikes this balance between darkness and hope, and we wanted the video to do the same.” Rookie Mag (Feature + Premiere): www.bit.ly/rookie-hcmcentire Pitchfork Album Review: “Released on Merge Records, the singer-songwriter’s debut is a gorgeous devotional to the South that reshapes the traditions of country music into a powerfully queer and consequential set of songs.” www.bit.ly/pitchfork-hcmcentire Contrast Films Caravan Cinema Co Stink Films

For centuries the Greek Myths have been used as cautionary tales...

For centuries the Greek Myths have been used as cautionary tales and teaching tools for people both young and old. These stories convey deep wisdom about the human condition which continue to resonate with us. I wanted to honor these ancient stories by interpreting them in the age of the pixel and gif. The challenge was to communicate these complex stories in the most minimal way possible while retaining their essence. By having each vignette loop seamlessly, the timeless and perennial nature of these stories are reinforced. Ultimately these animations serve as visual shorthand for ancient truths which are as relevant today as they were when first told. Sisyphus: After numerous transgressions, Zeus decided to punish the deceitful king Sisyphus once and for all by forcing him to push a huge enchanted boulder up a steep hill. As soon as he reached the top, the boulder would roll back down to the base of the hill, condemning Sisyphus to an eternity of frustrated labor.
Icarus: King Minos imprisoned Icarus in a tower alongside his father, the master craftsman Daedalus. As a means of escape Daedalus created a set of wings made of feathers and wax for his son but warned him not to fly too close to the sun. Icarus did not however heed his father’s advice. His wings dissolved and Icarus fell into the sea below and drowned.
Persephone: The daughter of Zeus and Demeter, Persephone was abducted by the god of the underworld Hades. Although Zeus intervened and brought her back to the land of the living, Persephone was bound to Hades for four months of each year. In her grief, Demeter would make the soils barren thereby creating winter while Persephone’s return would mark the start of the spring.
Narcissus: As punishment for mortal Narcissus’ cruel treatment of the nymph Echo, he was cursed by Nemesis, the goddess of revenge. She led him to a pool where upon seeing his own reflection, he became besotted with his image and was unable to leave. Fixated, starving and in despair, he fell into the pool and drowned.
Midas: Having done a great service for the god Dionysus, King Midas was granted one wish of his choosing. He wished that everything he touched would turn to gold. Upon turning food, water and even his own daughter to gold however, he soon realized his foolishness and prayed to Dionysus to undo his wish. Dionysus took pity on King Midas and duly undid the wish.
Theseus: A Greek hero of many adventures, Theseus is best known for his defeat of the Minotaur. Under the decree of King Minos, every year fourteen young Atheneans were sacrificed to the Minotaur - a monstrous half bull, half man who resided deep within the Labyrinth. Not only was Theseus able to slay the Minotaur but he also successfully escaped the complex Labyrinth, solidifying his legend. More than three thousand insects appear in this film each for a single frame. As the colours glow and change across their bodies and wings it seems that the genetic programme of millions of years is taking place in a few minutes. It is a rampant creation that seems to defy the explanations of evolutionists and fundamentalists. It is like a mescaline vision dreamt by Charles Darwin. 2004
