WINNER of the SPECIAL JURY AWARD at the 2017 New Orleans Film Festival “American Dream” is the story of Mae, a young Chinese immigrant attempting to achieve her dream of becoming a singer in Chinatown, New York City. Things do not go as planned as the image of her dream deteriorates into a harsh reality and she finds herself back in a familiar place - or, perhaps she never left. The film stages a confrontation with the idea of the “American Dream” and the way narratives of American capitalism have imposed imaginary norms which work to define our collective understanding of the immigrant experience. We throw into question the various modes of objectification popular cinema uses to construct narratives of female identity. Additionally, we frame the monotony of female immigrant labor in order to underline the reality of these experiences and the ways they remain, as if in a blind spot, hidden from view. Behind the scenes look at how director Dean Fleischer-Camp and Editor Johnathan Rippon created FRAUD by sorting through 100’s of hours of online videos to craft a fictional narrative. Film Synopsis: A family’s home movies document a desperate crime spree and a bid to outrun the consequences…Or do they? In this meta-fiction thriller, an average family’s youtube videos have been edited to resemble something quite different. An extraordinary feat of editing, a provocative parable of the pursuit of happiness, and a disturbing demonstration of the mutability of the stories we share in the Internet age, FRAUD defies simplistic definition. Greenland - Since 8 years I’m traveling to this magical country. Today quiet and untouched places are becoming more and more rare. On my first visit to Greenland, I was fascinated by the incredible power of nature that can be felt everywhere. But during the last years things have changed. The amount of icebergs is increasing savagely. Glaciers I’m visiting every year are retreating not meters but kilometers a year and the unending amount of ice seems to be endless. There is nothing more beautiful than an iceberg - everyone is unique and the light reflecting from its surface is magical. It’s sad how close beauty and decay can be seen in an iceberg. This movie is is an appreciation to the ice - for me the most amazing aggregate state of water. More infos: https://www.stefanforster.com/ Behind the scenes For this short film I travelled to Greenland with my drones several times. Always with the target of a certain region in a certain light situation. The shots from the calving glacier took me 4 days at the Eqi Glacier and over 75 battery charges for only 4 usable shots of a few seconds. It’s a very hard intention to film the very right moment on a glacier front of about 6km wide - especially close up. But the hardest thing of flying in Greenland is the fact, that every 2-3 minutes the difference between the magnetic north and the geographic north (which are not the same place - especially so far north) causing a fatal p-gps flight error and the drone is flying away (also the camera’s horizon). But at the end every single flight was worth it - filming Icebergs from above is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever done. Additionally I used the drone to scout the landing spot and look for polar bears. The best thing for bears and humans is to not meet each other on shore. During a climbing trip to Turkey, on a routine day, professional climber Rannveig Aamodt made a small mistake that almost cost her her life. A quick lapse of judgment resulted in a fifty foot fall. Straight down. Emergency crews evacuated Rannveig by helicopter with fractures to her back, pelvis, both ankles, and countless other injuries; both physically and emotionally. According to the doctors, she would never properly walk again, and her future surely was not going to involve climbing. Armed with hope, determination, and a beautiful perspective on life, Rannveig redirected the trajectory of her story. She proved that her reaction to her situation dictated the course of her future. ///// Shot On Location in Oliana, Spain Director: Steve Rokks ROKKS Media House

“I don’t want to feel like it’s only me. I know it’s not only me, because there are others out there…” ‘I Don’t Protest, I Just Dance In My Shadow’ is a short visual essay film by artist animator, Jessica Ashman, about navigating the visual art and animation world as a black face in a white space. Using animation and recorded interviews of eight other women of colour artists, ‘I Don’t Protest, I Just Dance In My Shadow’ is an abstract confessional from the director herself: a visualisation of the joy, frustration, wishes and dreams of what it feels like to be a black women and a woman of colour artist, creating and existing. Developed by Animate Projects and funded by Arts Council England, ‘I Don’t Protest, I Just Dance In My Shadow’ also screened as part of a 10 day installation at the Four Corners Gallery, June 2017, designed by Jessica. The installation was created to accompany the film and showcased in depth the artists interviewed and experimental abstracts from the film-making process. Some 27,000 photos and video later, taking some time to reflect...
Some 27,000 photos and video later, taking some time to reflect on documenting this year’s eruption has truly helped to process a lot of the intense range of emotions felt throughout 100 days of volcanic photojournalism. It is difficult to describe how it felt like to be led by something beyond the forces of our human existence. It was the unseen that kept all of us safe when approaching harm’s way. I believe it was the same unseen presence that brought our community together in a way that would have never bonded had it not been for something so incredibly incomprehensible. This short documentary captures the first hour of Day 1, till my last remaining overflights on Day 100, observing massive geological change. My respect and best wishes go out to the neighborhood of Leilani Estates, Lanipuna Gardens, and the areas within and between Kapoho. My heart also goes out to California as fires continue to violently change the lives of many. A portion of 2018 Eruption Relief print sales through my website at: www.andrewhara.com/2018eruptionrelief will be donated to help support our local community in Hawaii, in addition to relief efforts in California. Thank you for being a part of this journey together. With much gratitude and aloha, Andrew Richard Hara ______ From Lyman Museum, Hilo, Hawaii: Madame Pele’s most recent period of high activity has affected people across Hawai‘i Island, in many cases with devastating effects on lives and well-being. While we do not lose sight of these effects, and we do what we can to help our ‘ohana, the fact remains—and perhaps it’s a bit uncomfortable to recognize—that the 2018 eruption of Kīlauea has produced some of the most visually beautiful content of our planet in a transition both destructive and creative. One of Hawai‘i’s leading photographer/videographers has put together a breathtaking documentary, a highlighting the Kīlauea fissure eruption from the first hour of Day One. Andrew shares his personal experiences throughout the eruptive events; how his visual media were able to help families, communities, and government agencies; and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to record 27,000 detailed photographs of a most significant geological event in Hawai‘i Island’s history.

“Escaping slavery; risking everything to save her family; leading a military raid; championing the cause of women’s suffrage; these are just a handful of the accomplishments of one of America’s most courageous heroes.” An animation I directed and animated in collaboration with TED-Ed and educator Janell Hobson. Explore the full lesson at TED-Ed’s website: ed.ted.com/lessons/the-courage-of-harriet-tubman-janell-hobson#watch The use of a daisy flower: Daisy has the meaning of childbirth, it also represents new beginning, innocent or purity. We see a new born Harriet blooming out from a daisy in the beginning shot. When we talk about Harriet’s aging and death, we see the flower wilting, petals falling onto the ground. A new daisy buds bloom out from the ground as we hear Harriet’s final words: “I go away to prepare a place for you”. “WARNING: This video may potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.” I am proud to share my latest abstract mirror timelapse video “The Wormhole”. I knew after creating Mirror city (https://vimeo.com/70573323) I wanted to keep exploring the idea of kaleidoscopic imagery in timelapse. This time I wanted to expand upon the idea, creating scenes that feel like new worlds in alternate universes. I utilized camera techniques such as hyperlapse and aerial video to further showcase the surrealism in the video. Cities showcased in this video are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, Las Vegas, Dubai, Doha, Singapore, Shanghai. I really hope you enjoy the video! A few weeks back I had the chance to visit Pyongyang and attend the Mass Games there. This show is by far the most incredible and amazing performance I have ever laid my eyes on. Watch this 4 minute film and you will know why. Only a communist country can pull something like this off I guess. However, I do not want to get involved in politics here, so please do your own research. Many thanks to Simon Cockerell and Jessica Mader from Koryo Tours ( https://koryogroup.com ) and Ri So Hyang, Kim Sun Mi, Lee Song Hyok, Kim Yong Un from KITC for arranging permissions and making this project possible. A film about Pyongyang will follow shortly. Mass Games can basically be described as a synchronized socialist-realist spectacular, featuring over 100,000 participants in a 90-minute display of gymnastics, dance, acrobatics, and dramatic performance, accompanied by music and other effects, all wrapped in a highly politicized package. Students practiced every day from January onwards. The 90 minute performance is held every evening at 7pm and features the ‘largest picture in the world’ a giant mosaic of individual students each holding a book whose pages links with their neighbours’ to make up one gigantic scene. When the students turn the pages the scene or individual elements of the scene change, up to 170 pages make up one book. In August 2007, the Mass Games were recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest gymnastic display with 100,090 participants at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang. *** WARNING: Sensitive Content*** A film designed to inspire younger generations to get out and vote for representatives who advocate sensible gun control laws in the November ’18 midterms. Written by Kesha, Sage, Chika, Pebe Sebert, and Drew Pearson, the song was created as an artistic response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The film is a looping, metaphoric visualization of the predictable events that follow a mass shooting. Using the overly complicated and at times comical mechanics of a Rube Goldberg machine, the story takes place inside a school while a shooting is occurring. After every shooting, there’s outrage, prayers and false promises. Then it happens again. End #TheMostViciousCycle. Vote for candidates who support sensible gun laws and share the video. #VoteForOurLives on 11/6. The film is a looping, metaphoric visualization of the predictable events that follow a mass shooting. A story about the Human Spirit Pa (Philippa) Arding has suffered two life threatening accidents in the last 11 years. Left with a permanent limp and a brain injury that makes speech and language incredibly difficult for her, she has defied the odds and gone on to overcome many obstacles, take part in great adventures and lead marine conservation initiatives. Pa is an inspiring human with an amazing story to share, relating to every one of us. A film by Greg Dennis - https://www.gregdennis.co.uk Original Score composed by Chris Davey - http://www.chrisdaveyfilm.com Thanks to Pa’s husband Nick Arding, without whom this film would not have been possible. Filmed on location in the Isles of Scilly, Dartmoor and Cornwall.

www.koruashapes.com America! Land of the free, home of the onion pizza. Volume 7 follows us on a short trip to the US of A for the infamous Holy Bowly gathering. After a powder-heavy season at home in Europe, there was still some pop left in our legs as we packed our bags and hopped across the pond to Mt. Hood, Oregon. Upon arrival awaited a seemingly endless setup of jumps, bumps, hips, bowls, transitions – a true masterpiece from the crew around Krush & Snowboy Productions. The week flew by quickly in a haze of bowly-laps, parking lot hangs and Coors Banquet’s, and what’s left is this short film to help us remember what a holy hell of a time we had.
